Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Meribel - long weekend accommodation

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to find accommodation for 2 for a long (but all too short!) weekend in Meribel this coming Feb? We're flexible, B&B / half board etc. I'd prefer to be in Mottaret I think having been there a few years back, but not too fussy.

I'm about to book the train to Moutiers arriving on the morning of Friday 7th Feb, leaving evening of Monday 12th, in case any Meribel hosts are reading this... Laughing

Thanks,

Alex

Ouch - you would pick that weekend!! Be warned that this is the start weekend of the UK Feb half term holidays and will also be when 2 French zones will be off, so it will be very very busy. I would have thought that most places will be looking for week long bookings, you will have to be very flexible and will be best to leave it till much nearer the time as you will be unlikely to get a weekend booking at this stage.

Good luck!! snowHead

ah... I thought we were early enough to avoid that. Hmm well I haven't *actually* booked that train yet, maybe I should reconsider!

Thanks for the tip

AlexF, if you are after a long weekend for 2 best bet is a hotel in meribel itself. Mottaret doesnt have cheap hotels (the mount vallon costs a bomb)

check out www.merinet.com they have all the hotels listed and some of them arent on the big tour operator websites.

What about staying in Brides les Bains? Connected to Meribel by gondola; proper French town; cheaper than staying up the mountain; fair selection of places to eat and drink - ideal for a short break.

There is a reasonable selection of hotels there - some of which are bookable on Expedia (which is where I booked). I stayed at the "Exclusive Golf Hotel" which is in a central spot in the town and is about 5 mins walk from the gondola.

OR - as you are going by train, why not consider staying in Bourg St Maurice and skiing Les Arcs? (Which is connected by funicular to Bourg St M.) Again, cheaper valley accommodation and Bourg is a nicer town than Brides les Bains with a better selection of restaurants. Stayed there too but can't remember the name of the hotel.
