Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saas Fee - 1st week in December?

 Poster: A snowHead

I understand that Saas Fee has a glacier that is open most of the year.

Does anyone have any first hand info as to whether there will be many lifts open 4th December onwards please?

I ask on here as I appreciate that the Swissys doent get too excited about skiing until after Xmas. I once took a December trip to Adelboden on the local tourist office's assurance that lifts would be open and guess what, only 2 were and one day the gondola was broken.

The Saas Fee website has a webcam that shows a few skis in apile that looks like a high lift station, but y' never quite know, so any advice gratefully received.

T-Dub, they have today opened the first run down to the mid station at Morenia at 2500m. So there's a handful of runs on the glacier (with T-bar lifts) going up to 3500m and just one run you can take back to the gondola and funicular (but there is still 1000m of descent). I expect more will open in the next couple of weeks.

The glacier runs consist of a couple of t-bars and 3-4 pistes of ~200m vertical. Fine if you've got technique to work on, but not a lot of variety. If the mid station opens it gives you a lot more to play with.

Thanks both.

Saas Fee tourist office advises 30km of piste open, so away we go!

If you look up the interactive maps on www.saasfee.ch you'll see how many lifts are open. I was there last year, during the week before christmas. Half the pistes were open, but only one went all the way to the bottom. Granted last december was abysmal, but I felt they could have opened more (Plattjen especially). Still, I loved the place! Just get ready for the worst T bar in the world (not the long one, but the ones at the very top).

According to the Saas-Fee website (mountain cableways/timetables) they will open the Spielboden/Längfluh lifts this weekend, but Plattjen will not open for another couple of weeks. This is not the same as saying the pistes will be open, but they must open one or two, otherwise there is no point opening the lifts. I think more snow is forecast for the weekend - I am hoping for a big dump or two before 15 December when it will be my turn to ski there.
