Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This applies to last year's research on my behalf, so you need to check as it may be out of date. I looked at almost every annual policy on the market including some from specialist brokers - but there was always one thing that was missing - terrorism cover. I was amazed how many left this out as you are likely to be disrupted by this anywere these days - the airport, tunnel, ferrys etc etc.. Just imagine being at the airport and your holiday being cancelled because you can't get out - AND not being able to claim for it..!

At the time only one company covered this - First Direct. Dogtag as mentioned by Kermit looked excellent and was exactly what I wanted having an active family - however, even talking directly to their underwriters they would not do me a special addition (it may be different now - check the small print).

First Direct added all the extras I needed with no quibble, and from a friends experience with them last year, they pay out with no quibble and provide excellent service.

Hope that is food for thought and helps..

Hmm - just looking at the posts above, maybe this should be added to the sticky thread..

PS - there are some very cheap annual policies out there, but having read many insurance discussion forums, it seems that a lot of them never pay out, or make it a nightmare to do so. Maybe that's why they are so cheap! (I pay £190 for a family of four for annual worldwide cover with lots of extras added - not cheap, but hopefully watertight!)

That would explain why they leave it out then.

buzz55, have a look at snowcard. They provide cover that is priced according to the activities you want to do. So read carefully before you select the level you want - if you go for them. I am insured with them - and was pleased with there response when I had an accident.

Yup. Riots, civil disorder and that sort of thing are not normally covered - wouldn't expect terrorism to be covered either.

I used www.ski-insurance.co.uk for my season a couple of years ago and had two small claims for medical stuff, they handled both pretty well. I have Dogtag this year as I "fell" a bit on impulse for the marketing, I do like the idea of "wearing my insurance" whilst doing sport but I would use Ski insurance again.

buzz55,

I think Columbus Direct do this on their website (do a google). I had world wide travel insurance with Winter Sports through them and you can also include other "modules" such as watersports to cover scuba diving / canoeing / inshore and offshore sailing (which is what I wanted) and I think you can also select other sports such as paragliding and bungee jumping if that's your bag.

Never had to claim though so I cannot vouch for their service then, but setting up policy etc is efficient and they seem to know what they are at.

I have been in resorts where it is not clear where the edge of the pistes are. And even if you are not a keen off-piste skier (and there are circumstances where I would ski off-piste without a guide) what about the days where there is no avalanche risk from above, the powder between piste has been fully skied out - are you seriously saying you would never ski a well-tracked run - perhaps to get a few moguls in? If it's your unlucky day, and you have an accident there, rather than on the piste, you are not covered. Furthermore what constitutes an area that the resort management considers safe? Let's say you are with your guide. The Avalanche Risk is 3. The guide is however content to do a run because he knows it well, and in his assessment, the conditions in that localised area make the risk reasonable. But it's your unlucky day, and something does go wrong. Are you covered?

Perhaps First Direct are sympathetically flexible in such circumstances. Personally, I would not want the worry.
