Poster: A snowHead
|
According to this useful guide to family skiing by Peter Hardy in Saturday's Daily Telegraph, the Christmas period (with its complication of Christmas Day falling on a Saturday) is proving hard to sell, and ski holiday prices are falling. This contrasts with the situation at half-term (see separate thread).
What price/discount would tempt you to book a Christmas ski, or would you insist on waiting for the early snow reports?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Already booked our trip out, but I'm not surprised that tour operators are struggling. The Saturday Christmas seems to make a big mess of all arrangements over the festive period.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We booked about 10 days ago for a week from 26th in Tignes in a catered chalet for £200 off, but have since seen other deals a bit cheaper, but b&b so not too disappointed.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

A further wave of last-minute Christmas discounting could now sweep the French Alps, if Chamonix is an indicator. Prices have been slashed for the Christmas week 18-25 December, with a special 8-night rate (extended to 26 December) on self-catering accommodation and price (inclusive of 6-day liftpass) from 262.50 Euros.
Hotels are on offer from 420 Euros for that week (though for 7 nights), again inclusive of liftpass. That means departing Christmas Day, which is maybe not so clever, but maybe stays can be extended.
Here are the details on Chamonix.com. Of course, this is all based on the big snow gamble. Chamonix has delayed its opening (should have been 4 Dec) until the snow arrives.

I'm looking for a new year deal, leaving 26th. Not too much around at the moment. My guess is that operators are holding back - at least that's what I like to think.

PG, but of course....
Unfortunately I have to do some work at some point to pay for holidays, so can't make your dates. Plus the children have to be back at school. Failing any New Year joy I'm planning a long weekend, something like Jan 13th to 17th. Any availability then?

Not to be left out of the spirit of Christmas plugging we still have some spaces at £250 for the week, full chalet facilities and Xmas dinner plus all the trimmings. Just a few places left.
