Mrs SM and I plan to pop over for a long w/end before / over Christmas - we can go last minute so -

Colder weather (-8 this morning) and snow expected, the management have switched on all the snow canons.

dan100, it's a tiny (ex mining) village called Le Serre Barbin between La Salle and Monetier. Population of less than 100. The view is of Le Bez and in the distance Le Casse du boeuf piste. Come and take a look when you are here.

It looks very beautiful. really looking forward to a trip to france outside of the so called mega resorts -you've probably picked up I'm staying in le Bez pretty close to the foot of the piste. I guess your picture shows a pretty good view

dan100, Le Bez is a lovely village and the locals are known as 'Gelee Tetes' on account of the lack of sunshine (the mountain obscures the sun) in winter! It'll be ok by March thiugh. The piste on the right (in the photo) being 'cannoned' is the easier way down to the village. If you need any info, PM me.

The southern alps have a decent covering at last. is there much snow in Briancon on the lower slopes? and do you know how many cm have fallen in the area?

Christopher, my son just came back from the lauteret where it is knee high.
Here at 1400m it is 10cm
in Briancon there was about 3-4cm but it is still snowing and more is due tomorrow.

Christopher, we open the 15th dec. its not ridable at the moment unless you like riding rocks. The lautaret was rideable but is still white but not so thick now.
after the next few days i'm pretty sure the whole lot will be ok, maybe not so good at valley level but anything above 1500m should be ok (which is valley level at monetier) Will keep you posted

Montgenevre (being next door) is opening 2 weeks early now. Meant to be the 7th December but it is now the 24th November.
Has it snowed in the area today? the webcams just show fog.

We're dropping in for the New Year. Looking forward to it immensely - only made it as far south as La Grave before now. I'll have to work out where we're staying. Anyone know of good creche facilities?

fallliner, there is creche facilities in all the villages but i can only vouch for the one in Chantemerle.
Martine is lovely and speaks english. Winter (my daughter) learnt her first french there and still goes there for the odd day or so.
the Garderie is just by the little kiddies ski hut, under the stairs to the Serre d'aigle.
If your coming peak times you would need to book.

chris ope springs eeeternal but when you're stuck in zee meeddle of a desert getting "ome" can seem an up'ill struggle. Could you send me sum of my brozzer's excellent beeer as a reminder of ze pleasant 'ills of ome. Merci mon amis.
