Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resorts c1hr from Salzburg

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Given some of the amazing conditions in Austria, can anyone recommend a resort within about an hour of Salzburg that is benefiting from some of the early snow that will be open?

Thinking about a quick weekend on 2nd Nov - Ryanair have got some pretty good deals at the moment.

Thanks

But i can't say what resorts will be open. Depends what happens this weekend temp are forecast up to 14 oC!! So the conditions might not be that good. maybe wait until next week to see what the forecast is.

What about the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, probably about an hour by car and regular trains taking maybe 1.5 to 2 hours to Zell am See. http://en.kitzsteinhorn.at/

schladming (1hr salzburg) is due to open fri 26 oct, clearly dependant on early season snow. Nearby Dachstein Glacier should be no problem.

Kitz is open and the snow is looking good. It's about 1 and a bit hour's drive from Salzburg. You can also stay in Zell am See, not far away (if you have a car). The train to Zell takes 1hr 40 mins and you can get a taxi to Kaprun village (10mins, around 16 euro). My experience of the glacier in November is that it can be very cold and windy, so be prepared!

Mark Hunter,

It's due to get warmer again in the next few days and in terms of snow conditions 15 days is a long time, anything could happen. If the flights are cheap it's worth a punt using somehwere like Kitzsteinhorn (Kaprun) as a back up plan.

Thanks all, really helpful.

djfletcher, your place looks interesting. This is tentative, but we may look to sort something fairly quickly. Do you have any availability on your B & B tariff for the nights of the 2nd & 3rd November?

Cheers

Mark
