What are the powder skis of choice this year?
Which ones should I get?
.....
.....
Begin flame war.
ok,ok, so a bit more background:
I've already got a set of B2s, RC4s, and some Storm Riders , but this year it's time to complete the set of all skis for all conditions. I'm looking for something to take out on a fresh powder day - something that's going to be good in the steeps and won't mind taking a knock or two from silly silly rock drops.

I have had Volkl Karmas for the past couple of seasons.. Fat.. but not as Fat as the Gotama. I find they float nicely and they are also great in the park. They are also surprisingly good carvers.
Not too sure what the weapons of choice should be this season....

snow_gibbon, Nordica Doberman SL-Rs. Just awesome in anything I've thrown at them. And they're a hoot if you're having to use boring old pistes to get at your pow.

kiwi1, you would To be fair, I know many liked Icelantics at the EOSB.
However, I am very pleased with the Scott Missions resting up against my office wall as I write - and bought last year. Haven't checked - but Iguess Scott are still producing them.

snow_gibbon,
Probably best to give your height & weight so that people can suggest a ski suited to your size.

I'd say that the Missions are an all rounder rather than a pure powder ski.

snow_gibbon, call me old fashioned (and curmudgeonly if you like) but isn't the point of thigh deep powder that you're actually thigh deep? Not floating around on top skiing like you're on piste on a pair of ridiculous skis that bear more resemblance to snowboards?
Learn to ski the deep stuff, don't sit on top of it.
(You know that short skinny slalom skis are the way forward, you do, really...)

Factions... great skis! www.thefactioncollective.com
You won't go wrong with some of the K2 range - i was so impressed with the strength of the base on the Seth Vicious - another all round awesome ski.

These are Icelantic Nomad's which are wood. But yes, I think you could have done well with the Atomic Nomad's, especially the Crimson.

Far be it for me to agree with David Murdoch, on this point, for he seems to like turning which seems a bit weird, but I went out with a mate who'd bought something fairly fat - Seths Pistols, I think - which he loves almost completely. The thing is he weighs eff all and can't get the face shots he craves any more because he never sinks more than about three inches into the fluff. A bunch of superannuated racers I've been chatting to just grab their GS skis when it snows, which seems perverse in a fun sort of way.
