Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Slightly different question than usual about boots and "insoles"

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi,

We are going skiing again at Christmas and are taking my mum with us who is a complete beginner. Whilst buying boots for someone in their first week would be overkill, I have been reading through all the posts to do with boots on this forum (and there are a lot!) and I was wondering what people thought about getting custom made insoles (i can't remember the technical term) to reduce the chance of dodgy rental boots hurting her feet?

good idea, or not?

thanks for your help

xjenkins, Yes, good idea, i'd go see the guys at Lockwoods, speak to Steve Robinson. He doesn't do ski boots but does hiking boots, he'd be able to make her a custom othotic that she could use in everyday shoes thereafter, should she not take to skiing. Superfeet custom Black. Little Angel

This is a most interesting idea. I don't feel ready to buy ski boots yet but after a short time in ski boots (or ice-skating boots) my feet start to hurt. I have some Superfeet insoles which improve matters in my walking boots. Where would the insole go in ski boots, between the boot and liner or between the liner and foot? How hard is it to remove and replace the liner (if this is needed)?

peura, In most cases it's easy to remove the liner, the footbed simply replaces the one inside the sli boot. So inside the liner is where the footbed should go.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Would zipfit liners be an option?

FenlandSkier, I kinda follow you, but i would say you'd be causing other problems, it takes a couple of days for them to bed down, changing them from shell to shell each holiday may not work, so the exercise is pointless, i like the way you think though. I think everyone needs a week in hire boots to get the benifit from proper fitting. My staff have to wear hire boots for their first 6 weeks to illustrate this point.

FenlandSkier, probably a little bit of overkill at £170 a pair, and they really need to be heated with the shell they are to used in....there is a rental outfit in whistler [i think] who are offering a rental boot with a zip fit liner, you pick the boots up each morning from their heated boot room so the shell and liners are nice and soft Toofy Grin

Thanks SMALLZOOKEEPER, & xjenkins. If this works perhaps I can have a more comfortable holiday this year. I wish I'd though of this last year. What's the betting I'll leave the footbeds in the boot at the end of the hire period.
O/T PS I've always wanted to know why your trade is a "zookeeper" Puzzled

peura, It was just a name i got given off a lad i worked with a few years ago, thought it was rather apt as our clients are a bit like animals sometimes, where i work is small, i'm a bit small and i'm the Keeper/boss. Since then a few other Zookeeper's have picked up the tag line.

NAKED looks like Jamie Oliver.
LARGE is older and maybe a cm taller than me.

Ah, it all makes sense now Toofy Grin I'd thought it a more general term Embarassed . One day I'll have to buy a pair of boots but I want to try skiing like the natives up north first.
