Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Any idea what/how/why Evolution use these descriptions for kids lessons?

Trying to decide what Yeti my 7 year old is! She's somewhere between a 2 and a 3 I reckon with 4 weeks under her belt, can ski blues inc the "tricky" one down into La Tania and did part of a red last year.

A person in a Yeti costume presents the prizes at the end of the week. Trying to make it all fun. Kids ain't happy, parents are in trouble.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

kitenski, Last Year we hired an instuctor and at the end they were awardedthe Standard Broze, Silver & Gold Badges. These would equate to 1,2 & 3 Yeti. My take on the badges was that if the kids were tempted into a snowplough at times then they got silver, if they were genuine parallel carving skiers then they got gold.

I would suggest Yeti 2 for her.

Frosty the Snowman, There is a HUGE difference between parallel with an occasional snowplough, and carving.... do they really have that big a gap between the levels?

little tiger, It may be a HUGE gap for us adults, but not for kids. When kids get out of their comfort zone they automatically switch back into that enviable "bum on the floor" snowplough. It shows they are comfortable with parallel when they start to carve and bin the "autoplough" and in my experience it is what instr4uctors teaching kids look at.

FtS, but your instructor was private wasn't he?

Think is I reckon she will be bored in a snow plough class and the Yeti 3 includes a day out to Italy with the group, which she would also enjoy, I've emailed evolution....

Cheers,

Greg

kitenski,
If they are like most ESI schools they use the class that they are put into as a starting point to give an idea but then do a ski off to actually divide them up. So I would not be too concerned about being one group out either way.

Frosty the Snowman, I've skied with my ex and his kids a bit... the little one was at the just parallel - revert to snowplough when scared stage at the time... (Remember my ex was an instructor trainer so we paid a lot of attention).... His oldest was able to carve well after some race training, but was certainly not consistently carving his turns before that. He had been consistently parallel for years.... and there was a HUGE difference in ability in those kids.... The oldest single handedly got his school team into the national schools comp with his skiing (one of the better skiers in the state in his age group) ... the youngest could just run the gates....
