The instructions say if storing for an extended period of time the bindings should be closed, but the boots should not be attached.
Quote from instructions:
'Ski boots should never be stored in the binding. Make sure the binding is closed when stored for longer periods of time'
I have assumed this means that I should manually lift the heel release (the bit you put you ski stick on the free them from the boots) until the bindings 'snap' as though a boot is in them. As far as I can see this is the only thing that looks 'manually' moveable. If I have misunderstood the instructions please let me know.

You've read it right, but watch your fingers or lay them flat on the floor and stand on the heelpiece until they click shut, again be careful as the mechanism clicks into place.

I don't think it matters too much just don't lock the brakes together and stick them in your cold and damp loft / garage or the metal will rust.
I loosen my bindings down to below their minimum din setting as well but some people can get quite anal about resetting them to there correct setting so that's up to you I guess

Hmmm, I just stacked them against the wall of the garage. As usual. I don't think that a summer will do too much damage...

whats the issue with "locking the brakes together"?? Assuming there is no pull on the ski, I can't see the problem.

kitenski, only issue that I know is if the two skis are locked tightly together then their natural camber will be flattened out. Some reckon that they can 'set' in this flat state if they stay like that for a long time.
I store my skis upright on their tails, tips resting against the wall and standing side by side.

I've laid mine side by side on their edge in the ski bag that PamW sent me and left it open so that they can breathe and then put them under my bed, so I'm sleeping with them in my room
