I've bought boots for both of my kids and have been looking at skis on ebay. There seem to be some good deals going (though some people pay almost as much for second hand ones as they cost new in the sales). Question is does the model of ski make any difference to a five year old at all? I can't find any reviews of kids skis on the net.
Hoping for cold, snowy, weather this year and heading for the hills on a good day would be less complicated if I didn't have to hire gear for the kids, and of course they can take them on holiday too.

ickabodblue, I wouldn't say there is going to be much difference between any skis aimed at 5 year olds.
You're correct about e-bay, some people pay ridiculous prices for second hand kids skis - I followed a pair that were three years old which eventually sold for more than you could buy a new pair for.

Don't waste your time looking for reviews-doubt if you will find any for kids that young.I cant give you any techie info,but I can tell you how my,now,10yr old daughter got on.Started skiing at 6,on a pair of S/H Crossmax's @ 90cm(I think)No problems with this ski,suited her fine.Couple of seasons later,moved onto a pair of Quechua(Decathlon)Junior Skis @108cm.These were great.A well made ski,good bindings(Rossignol)all in for around £50.She loved these,and always looked very comfortable on them.Now on K2 Missy Twin Tips..so the spend is going up 
Ski's to suit a 5yr old will be a general purpose,nothing special type of thing.At that age,the little one's are not really capable of receiving anything but the most basic of instruction.Not really a problem,most seem to sort it out for themselves.If you have one near,I would check out Decathlon.Good,basic kit...at sensible prices.Don't go too long(shoulder height at most)or the kids will lean on the ski rather than start to develop their own balance.Try a post in the Buy section,someone may have some lying around.As for ebay...well,pretty much any S/Hand kids ski will be OK,as they will never wear them out,just beware of paying too much as they aint that expensive new.

snowskisnow, Agree totally. Decathlon are great and cheap
ickabodblue, I would advise if buying second hand to only look at skis 1 or 2 years old. Kids sks get dropped bashed about and generally not looked ater as well as adult skis. We have a load of old kids skis but I wouldn't sell them as I know how much they have suffered in the hands of my horrors.
