Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowmaking has started at Chill Factor e in Manchester

Chill Factor e, the Alpine village due to open just outside Manchester, has began making snow ahead of its official opening date, projected to be in early November. The main slope will be the fifth UK indoor snow centre to be operational at present, and the 58th in the world. It will also be the world’s widest indoor slope, at 100m, and will be completely unobstructed, as the two ski lifts will be suspended from the ceiling....For more info: www.chillfactore.com

So how does that work exactly - I could swear that the photos above are show conventional pomas - which by definitiion then has a line of people on it being dragged up the hill - not exactly 'completely unobstructed'

bertie bassett, In Castleford, the lifts have lift towers sprouting from the snow on the slope, whilst the lift trck runs up alongside the wall.

This causes two problems - the 'effective' width of the slope is less because of the intermittant pylons causing narrowing and people giving them a wide berth use even less of the slope. I am often to be found carving big arcs into the spaces between pylons where there is usually fresh groomed snow !

Secondly, the grooming machine has to twiddle bout a lot more and i suppose the staff need to get their shovels out more often. I assume a slope clear of pylons from edge to edge will be quicker to groom and maintain to a better standard.

There is a safety aspect too - no need for big crash pads. But there may be more incidents of people hitting lift users.

'Andrew Lockerbie, operations director, said: "The start of snow-making is a hugely important milestone in the development of Chill Factor e.
" The exciting news is that it will snow in Trafford continuously, 24-hours a day for the next five weeks until we have close to half a metre of perfect real snow covering the slopes." '

That sounds like a *hell* of a long time, to me Puzzled

Well it's been snowing for a couple of weeks now, and it's still not completely covered the slope all over.
