Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
Only ever having done package weeks before, this coming season we're very restricted on dates due to one of the four of us being a teacher - and her school going back on January 4th (Friday!).
This means we're looking for a week in the snow from Thursday 27th December 2007 through Thursday 3rd January 2008. So far as I can see, all the tour operators work weekend to weekend only, so we're going to have to go it alone for the first time.
Not too worried about this - but can anyone give any suggestions how to get hold of accommodation for a Thursday to Thursday stay (over New Year...)? Obviously in a high resort if possible! Not too worried what style of accommodation, though catered would make things easier. Do hotels in resorts operate on a nightly booking basis, or only weekly?
Any ideas?
Thanks to all in advance!

Rooknee, Dunno where your looking at going, but would go thru the relevant places tourist office. Usually tend to get more response that way for strange dates than just emailing on spec.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Rooknee, put flexible ski breaks into Google and start from there.
I doubt you will get midweek accommodation around New Year in a major high level resort, but you'll never know until you try
Best of luck.

Rooknee, Swiss resorts are a bit more amenable than French ones to midweek stays you could try the tourist offices as mentioned above. There was a recent post suggesting that Tasch offers midweek beds just down the track from Zermatt. If you have no luck with the resorts you could try towns within short distances of the resorts and drive up.
eg Sion for 4 valleys Sierre for Crans Montana etc basically get a European road atlas and look.

Rooknee, I can do self-catered in Morzine for your dates depending on group size.

Try looking at Austrian pension. They are usually small and flexible.

Rooknee, have a look at www.skiamade.com and fill in the vacation planner. Or, pick a town and find the tourist info site and go from there. I know all the places are totally flexible. I sympathise with your situation - I was a teacher before moving here.

Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions - I'll try to have a look over the weekend (bit naughty spending all the working day searching for ski holidays...).
Any more ideas more than welcome, thanks!
(Frosty - I had a look at www.austrian-adventures.com, but it says it's booked up for the New Year period).
Cheers!
P.S. Group size is 4, which is hopefully easy for hotels and/or self catered.

Cheers Frosty the Snowman, Im sorry to say we only do Saturday/Saturday over xmas/new year. Any other time then we try and accommodate peoples wishes.
There are loads of lovely hotels, appartments, pensions in Ski Amade though, Rooknee, if you need any help or suggestions let me know.

I can offer flexible dates and my apartment at Le Corbier is still available until the 5th Jan. It'd be self-catering though.
