Poster: A snowHead

A rapid rise in temperature has forced Alpe d'Huez to postpone its planned half-term week opening... Excellent conditions on the Sarenne glacier have been transformed by a sudden thaw. This comes as a surprise, after last week's predictions of glorious snow cover, and Saturday opening has been cancelled for "security reasons".
Snow is predicted for next week, but no firm date is being given at this time.

From what you can see on the webcams, it doesn't look too bad. Sunny weather until next Monday at least, 0°C hovering between 3000m and 4000m...

Nice to see Tignes has got some of it's webcams working again, although none of them seem to have any time/date info. Are they showing real-time pictures? Do they still have snow down to Le Lac?
At least the weather will be nice and sunny for me this weeekend!

Good point. I'd be surprised if it looked that good au Lac.... it's been sheeting it down.

Ref. Tignes... I've been told that it rained to 3200m, and is bare ice up to that altitude on the glacier, pretty sticky above too.

Wow what a surprise. I was over in Grenoble last week and it was snowing above 2000 metres then. This time last year conditions were superb at Alpe d'Huez. So much for these prediction of a very cold winter...

We are still getting warm, wet Atlantic air across Europe.
I'm waiting for the serious cold to start marching down from Russia. No sign of it yet.
