Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Motorcycle Routes - Advice sought

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Friends of ours are staying at our place near Alpe D'Huez in a couple of weeks, they are travelling on bikes and want to do a few classic routes (day trips) from there. Anyone have any ideas for routes or resources where I can point him for some? They are more mature folks on cruising bikes rather than knee down nutters if that makes any difference!!

Nick Dawes, Cols du Galibier and Lauteret, and the Izoard (far side of Briancon)?

Helen Beaumont, Yes I suggested Lautaret, down past your place to Briancon (drove up there a couple of weeks back, had forgotten how stunning that area is), not sure of the best/most scenic & fun way to get back would be, I'm sure theres loads of routes which would be fun on a bike. There was a street luge race down the Izoard when we were in Briancon but we had to get back to pack so couldn't stay to watch it!

Nick Dawes, if you go over the Lauteret, down into Briancon, then across the Izoard to Embrun and Las Serre Poncon. You can loop back to Briancon from there, and could go back to ADH via the Montgenevre and the Fréjus tunnel. Finally over the Col du Telegraphe from the Maurienne valley, down the Galibier, and back to ADH, not sure how far in total it is though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Also Croix de Fer/Glandon into the Maurienne then back via Telegraphe, Galibier and Lautaret. The Vercors is worth a look as well - completely different landscape, all limestone.

I loved the Col de Vars route below Briancon.

I think doing only day trips from Alps D'heuz is a mistake if you take the trouble of taking the bike across there.

Would you not like to do Grand and Petit St Bernard pass?

What about the 6 mountain passes concentrated in Andermatt? Grimsel, Susten, St Gortard, Furka, Nufenen and Oberral passess.

How about Dolomites?

I would just lightly packed and do a big loop here and there and stay overnight whenever it suits me.

saikee, because the friends will be staying in Nick's apartment while they are there I suspect.

saikee, As Helen says they are staying in our apartment and making their routes relatively local for that reason, think they want a bit of R&R rather than a big tour! very jealous but am banned from having a moto!
