Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glacier skiing in late Oct

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Desperately trying to go away for a week late this month before the other half goes back to work full time after having our little baby girl.

I have tried Kaprun and Zell am See which has good snow at the moment but the hotels are having a break before the season starts.

Any advise?

laimel, have you tried Tignes, the resort usually opens (on the glacier) around the 1st week of October and there's been some good snow-falls in the Haute Trentaise this week.

Good conditions in Kaprun? Not brilliant in this neck of the woods, Tignes had zero cover until a week ago, then during the last week some 10cms, compacted down to an inch or so. Since yesterday morning another 10cms or so, maybe another inch on piste. Could be worse! Half-term from the coming weekend so lots of teams arrive at the end of the week for glacier training.

try harder ? Very Happy A lot of hotels are closed this time of year, but not more so in Kaprun than Tignes for example. Did you contact the tourist office? Or try tiscover?

Ski Club and Snow-forecast have some comments on what is open at the moment:

Someone around here went to Hintertux this time last year - for the half term.

1) Try a hotel search for "Kaprun" at Tiscover.at
Many of the hotels etc are shut until the beginning of Nov but there is normally some accommodation open.
http://book.tiscover.at/at/scout/accs/5,en,SCH1,1272/curr,EUR,r,RGN7at,season,at1/accoCrit.html

or

2) Click on "Tourismus" and then "Unterkünfte" in this link .....
http://www.kaprun.at/

or

3) Speak to the Austrian tourist office
http://cms.austria.info/aussenstelle2...1.html?_hm=311930&_lc=uk&_hl=&_hmo=25665

or

4) Send a few of these an email (most will understand English) ...
http://www.europasportregion.info/Hotels_Kaprun.370.0.html?&L=1

http://www.europasportregion.info/Guesthouses_Kaprun.377.0.html?&L=1
(The Alpenrose is normally open this time of year)

http://www.europasportregion.info/Apartments_Kaprun.381.0.html?&L=1

PS Kaprun got 10cm of snow last night and it's been pouring down in Austria again today
