Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowboard Size

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Classing myself as a novice who has boarded only twice, in fact lets call it once as the first time was mostly spent on my @rse Very Happy , I now have the offer from a very kind brother to have his old board for free. Very nice. So, the question - is it critical at my stage of learning to get the exact right size board? Some details to work with - not sure if there is a definite guideline for board sizing so here we go..

The board is 156cm and I am:

5'11
A 'slim' 15.5 stone wink
Size 9 feets

Would I struggle on a board this short? My thinking is that at least with this one I can get a feel for the board and get used to the way it moves rather than hiring and getting a different one each time.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Mr L is that height and rides a 160 - can't see 4cm making a whole lot of difference.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It'll be fine - when you get to the stage when you are maching it everywhere and feel you lack stability then maybe worry about it. Then get a 2m Swallowtail wink

MrDan, There's no such things as a wrong size or exact right size board. You've average size feet (so no overhang), not too lardy so you can learn to ride on anything. In relation to your own size a 156 will be great fun on piste and will respond readily to rider input, also it'll be easy to jump and twist when you start fancying yer'sen as Shaun White's natural born killer. The only thing it won't let you do easily is surf powder . . . you could, but it would be hard work to get right. Learn to ride on it and as you get better you will learn its limits . . . when you can ride through them it's time to buy a board that's more specific to the type of riding you prefer.

OK, if you get to a resort that's just had a major dump . . . hire something wider and maybe a bit longer and go eat some snow Twisted Evil
