Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Here's some news courtesy of Patrick Thorne and his Snow 24 agency. If you've ever endured the old bus service - the last one I caught had windows so filthy you couldn't see out of them - this will be very good news!

CairnGorm Introduces Improved Bus Service to Aviemore
The new local bus timetable initiative involving several attractions in the corridor between Aviemore and CairnGorm working in tandem with bus company Rapson’s to produce an enhanced awareness scheme is now active and, from all reports, seems to be working very well after a few minor hiccups. Aimed at encouraging visitors to use public transport as a means of visiting destinations within the short bus journey covering the 11 miles between Dalfaber and the Base Station, the service now operates a “hail and ride” system from the moment it leaves Aviemore with no “fixed” bus stops between Aviemore Railway Station and CairnGorm Mountain (CML).
Commented CML’s Fiona Milligan: “You should forget about regular bus stops outwith Aviemore for, with “Hail and Ride”, it’s a whole new system. If you want to get off, simply let the driver know where you’d like the bus to stop and he (or she) will stop at the nearest point within reason and with safety in mind. If you want to get on an approaching bus, you simply “hail” it by raising your arm and the driver will stop where it is safe to do so. It couldn’t be easier so give it a try and you may be pleasantly surprised at the variety of attractions on offer along the Inverdruie/Rothiemurchus/Glenmore road - and all easily accessible via local buses.”
While on the subject of buses, CairnGorm Mountain’s Chief Executive, Bob Kinnaird has been active of late in setting up a steering group of interested local parties to identify and progress opportunities for improving the provision of sustainable local public transport within the Aviemore/Glenmore area. Following a well-attended meeting held towards the end of August, various initiatives appropriate to rural public transport are being investigated at present including:
Identifying possible sites for bus shelters between Aviemore and CairnGorm
Investigating low emission buses, low level entry to buses, bike racks, etc via HiTrans
Involving the local Community Association in developing integrated timetables
Considering ways of encouraging alternative transport - walking and cycling:
Examining the potential for local car sharing schemes
Said Bob Kinnaird: “Efficient and sustainable public transport systems are often the lifeblood of local communities within rural Scotland. Flexibility within a co-ordinated system is crucial in encouraging people, both locals and visitors alike, to use public transport and all forms of public transport have to be integrated. Already, even at this early stage, the Scottish Tourism and Environmental Group is showing great interest in what we are trying to achieve and, hopefully, they will adopt the Aviemore/Glenmore area as part of a national pilot study into providing quality rural public transport.”
