Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

If you are a fan of La Plagne or have ever wondered about the history of how a ski resort develops, the history of the development of La Plagne is now translated into English on Romain's website.

In 1973, after more than 150 years of mining, the extraction of 140 000 tonnes of lead and 360 tonnes of silver, the La Plagne mines closed.
I couldn't help thinking I have been skiing on a mind field all these times. That also explains why La Plagne has so many huge size mole hills.
Just wonder who has got the 140,000 tonnes of lead and 360 tonnes of silver. Silver is trading at US$14 per ounce today. If 1 lb has 16 ounce and there are 2240 lb to a ton or a tonne (near enough) then we must be talking about US$ 0.5 million per tonne of silver or a total sum of us$180 millions for the silver here.
Lead is about US$1/lb so the money associated with it is about US$ 320 millions. So the French got US$400 million of GBP 200 millions in the 150 years mining La Plagne. If the La Plagne annual turnover is more than GBP 1.33 million then skiing is better than a silver/lead mine.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I imagine wintersports bring tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions of Euros of revenues directly into La Plagne every year.
Profit margins for both mining and tourism are likely to be relatively volatile, though.
