Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski season at Perisher Blue to open a day early

The ski season at Perisher Blue's Front Valley will be opening tomorrow, a day early. They have had good snowfalls and cold temperatures that have allowed for snowmaking day and night. The Mitchell T-bar will be opened from 11 o'clock, and other runs are expected to open as the week progresses....Thredbo are opening two runs, Crusier and Friday Flat, on Saturday.

More on the start of the Australian season. Looks as though it would be worth taking your skis if you are heading anywhere near the 'Australian Alps'.

Conditions are reasonable in parts of NZ and Oz for 'early December'. But they still need more.

Achillies. Almost no one uses that term. The mountains in Victoria are usually described as "The High Country" and in New South Wales as "The Snowy Mountains". The Tasmanians don't really have a generic term for their snowy places, although weather forecasts describe them as 'the highlands', with a small "h".
