Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Train to the Alps?

Right you lot. I have the oportunity to go on a three day 'educational' tip to the Savoie. As the sponsor is Rail Europe, the travel is from Waterloo through France to Chambery and then coach, visiting a few resorts (Champagny, Meribel, Brides les Bains) This will be useful for my job, but I have never travelled further than London from Liverpool, via train. How comfortable/interesting/boring is such a journey likely to be on a train? Is it via lovely scenery or industrialised outskirts or a mixture? Grateful for input from you well-travelled people if any of you have gone this way snowHead

Only ever done that journey in the dark, but have to say I wouldn't turn down a freebie to the Savoie.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Anniepen,

Quickest is to see if you have the eurostar and TGV option which will still take a day's travelling to all intents and purposes.
London-Paris is going to take 3 hrs. Paris-Chambery will not be done in less the 4.

You might save some time getting a late Eurostar into Paris and overnighting to the Savoie...and returning the same way, or you might get a bit more convenience going via Lille.

I never mind a 4 hour trip on the train abroad as I can cat-nap easily enough. You will get bored looking out the window all the time though...best take something to read and if you can upgrade to 1st class...bite them off..!!

Anniepen, if you can get a first class ticket on the Eurostar and go at a meal time, otherwise continental train travel tends to be much more plesant than the equivalent uk version

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks all. I understand it is all arranged and we get what we are given! This is Eurostar/TGV from Waterloo on a Thursday (don't know what time of day yet) to Chambery. Rest is coaching around and back via the train on the Sunday, again don't know the time. rob@rar, I do fancy the trip because the resorts are ones I have never been to, and do sell, so useful. Will let you know but again, thanks Very Happy
