Poster: A snowHead

As you may well know, Kiwi1 turned up at the EoSB07 with a fine selection of, generally rather phatter than average, skis made by 3 companies he's now responsible for distributing in the UK - High Society, Titicaca and Icelantic. On Monday, ski test day, I had a bit of stuff to sort out in the morning: someone had unfairly slagged off Warren Smith on here and he was feeling grumpy about it - thanks guys! Eventually I got up to the snowHeads Terrace on the Novotel to check some of this kit out.
Someone immediately pointed me towards "Those black ones, you'll like them". Little did I know that this was a cunning plan to keep me from trying anything else all week.
Made by High Society and apparently catchily named the 'FR' they are twin-tips in a moody black/grey design, so it was lucky I'd worn my matching hoody rather than my lilac and yellow one-piece. However, I couldn't ignore the nice touch that they'd obviously been designed with us in mind, sporting an 'S' and an 'H' for SnowHeads (Or you could wear them the wrong way round and they could, by coincidence, also stand for High Society )
I normally ride Salomon Pocket Rockets so I'm used to a wide ski like this and these were only about 4cm longer than mine so I felt pretty comfortable on them straight away. They seemed just a little less manoeuvrable than my own skis, probably because they were somewhat stiffer and trundling across phlatish sections of piste they didn't hold their speed as well as the people I was skiing with. Moguls were, well, doable but required a little effort.
However, these were made to be off the piste and there, they rocked! Just so long as you let them have a little speed! Allow them to carve great, wide arcs over any terrain and they're super-stable but not hard to steer at all. They're for using the curves of the terrain - more 'Lean with the mountain' than 'turn round the post'. Basically, u just need to let them run and they'll pay u back.
Most excitingly though, every time I found myself in the air, I got a comfortable landing! No flailing arms, no nagging sensation that you're falling backwards nor the dreadful insecurity of tipping forwards and when I hit the ground, no violent 'thud', even on those horrid little undulations that develop on the well worn bits of piste by the lifts. Dangerous though, over the 3 days (sorry kiwi1 ) that I rode these, I spent progressively more and more time in the air and I don't think I got a bad landing once! Weird... but rather good!
Kiwi1 told me that the High Society team riders had all chosen this ski from the range as it was "The most stable ski to ride switch that they'd found". I can't really give an opinion on that front but I'm guessing that it's just uncommonly well balanced or something.
Anyway, I tried to persuade him that they were rubbish and I'd only hung on to them to try to save him the embarrassment of having them in his rack but I think he might have seen me playing on them and the grin probably gave it away
Fortunately, by this time he had formed plan to prise them off me and cunningly offered me his brand new, never b4 skied upon, Race dept. Fischer RC4's for the afternoon - well how could one refuse?
