Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Before you go looking at Banff for next winter check out the "bus service" thread in the Resorts section! Might change your mind.

As far as weather goes, variable - anything from minus 30 to plus 2.

Snow, anything from 3m base to jumping rocks...

Freezing cold.

Wait until Mar, when it warms up a bit.

MFC, it was -25 most days and -40 at night when I was there in January about 8 yrs ago. You really need to wrap up and have a balaclava etc. as frost bite can be an issue apparently. Having said that we had lovely clear days with lots of sun. From what I remember the snow was pretty good, although very compacted and hard though because of the temperatures.

I've had -5 and I've had -35. It's a gamble. One day at LL it was too cold to start the lift until the sun came around the mountain and warmed it up a bit.

Face mask, silk inner gloves and hand/toe-warmers are all advisable.

Also, if it is very cold, assuming you're skiing with a friend, make sure that you monitor each other for incipient frosbite.

Very cold last January but not to the extremes that it can be. The advice of the post above is essential as I stupidly once went without a face mask for a quarter of an hour and my face stung for the rest of the day! Shocked

Temperatures in Alberta can vary to extremes. At the beginning of the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, it was well below -25C at Nakiska. By the end of the Games, it was +18C in Calgary, which, according the site below, is a record for a Winter Olympics.
