Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Babe, Thank you. Just to be doubly sure check your local education authorities website. Very Happy
Down here in Deepest Wiltshire the schools are only closing for a long weekend for Easter this year.

and if you live in scotland you have completely different holidays to deal with, basically we have no half term holiday in february, or may. here are our holiday dates for where i live, but they do vary slightly within the counties.

basically our holiday are rubbish, they do get a long wekend in febriuary, a long weekend in may but basically if you want a skiing holiday you either go xmas, easter or take kids out of school, which incidentally is never authorised and goes down as unauthorised absence.

OK. The French school holidays will be from 7 February - 9 March. So in France, at any rate, first week of February, and second week of March look like very good bets for next season.

Tut tut rolling eyes

Long weekend holidays, Scotland, skiing holiday - YES, get yourself organised and arrange something around some of the Scottish Ski centres. I have managed to arrange reasonably priced long weekend skiing holidays (with small children) for the Feb mid-term break and last (long) weekend Easter weekend. It also looks like the long weekend in May is also a possibility.

Courchevel is ain't, but like so many other on this forum have discovered, you can have a (short) skiing holiday in Scotland.

Looks like you need to get back over to the WH forum and start gathering some information.

Cheers

Rik

BTW: Re "unauthorised absence" - taking your kids put of school to visit a relative in Switzerland, France, Austria etc doesn't count as unauthorised absence wink

Ski Babe, Hi Ski babe, this is a site I find very usefull, give school holidays dates for each area for the whole country sometimes even 2 years in advance! 2010 should be on most of them now as well. http://local.direct.gov.uk/LDGRedirect/MapLocationSearch.do?map=1&LGSL=36&LGIL=8 hope that helps. Regards Chris

But if it's not the true reason for your trip, is it not better to take an "unauthorised absence" on the chin, rather than teach your kids that if you can't get what you want honestly, get it dishonestly?
If your kids have an otherwise good attendance and behaviour record you won't be put in prison.
And many schools will give an authorised absence, when push comes to shove. We always took ours out of school, though that was in the olden days when schools weren't chasing so many daft targets. It was always authorised.

We always requested the childrens' absence from school, and it was never refused. They took a week out most winters until they were about 13 or 14, all of them authorised. Although they can refuse, it is better for them to reluctantly give permission. If they refuse and you then take them out of school anyway, and the absence is unauthorised, it does not look good for their truancy statistics.

Am I right in saying that France splits into 3 or 4 zones with disjunct or overlapping school holiday periods?

Anybody got the specifics on when each zone's holiday falls?
