Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Private lessons at Tamworth?

 Poster: A snowHead

As it's looking impossible for me to get away again this season (sob!) I'm wondering about booking some private lessons at Tamworth. Has anyone had any and were they any good? I'm now very aware of the difference between a good instructor (L2A this year) and a not-so-good one (Cervinia last year) and of course at 70 quid an hour I want it to be worthwhile...

Any comments? Don't really want to wait until I go away again as that's probably not going to be until next year now Sad

Jon.

jonm, IMO, if you can already ski to a reasonable level, there is little to be gained from a private lesson at Tamworth, especially considering the cost.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

jonm, it depends what you want to do and want to get out of it. We had a private lesson on race technique before the season started (before a race training course in Tignes) and it was very helpful. That was from Brian who is a BASI 1. He isn't there in season as he works for the ESF too. You can't actually go that fast at Tamworth or you are at the bottom before you've thought about it, but if you want something on specific bits of technique, then it is definitely worth it. Provided you have skis with a reasonably short radius you can get some carving in on non-busy days too.

Stef is the chief instructor, and there are one or two other good ones - if you say what level you are they will generally match you up with an instructor capable of teaching that level - there are some BASI instructors there, as well as the ASSI ones.

I should be back in the UK, available for request privates, from mid May.

What do you want to achieve or improve?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

How about Gloucester on a Monday night with Western Counties ski club, 7 - 8:30? It's quite a bit of race technique in summer, but general skiing too, up to a very high standard. This is about the only adults ski club around.

Oops, I'd forgotten about this thread. Thanks for the input guys. Kramer, I've only had 2 weeks skiing so am not really what I'd call reasonable yet. docsquid, veeeight, what I want is to get the bad habits I've already managed to pick up corrected, and then just general improvement, especially I need to fix the fact that I "sit back" too much - maybe I just need much more practice, though? I just felt that in the 1-to-1 lessons I had each day at L2A in March I improved much more quickly than I did in the group lessons last year, and I worry that at this early stage in my skiing if I practise too much on my own I'll develop even more bad habits...

Jane L, bit too far away from me unfortunately, and sounds too advanced!
