'Glacier 3000' between Gstaad and Diablerets will not be open for downhill skiing again this summer. The ski area was bought by investors last year, who announced that there would be no downhill skiing in summer 2006, while they assessed the business. They have now said there will be no summer skiing this year either. ...Verbier, St Moritz, Alagna, Marmolada, Alpe d'Huez La Plagne and Val Thorens have also all ceased offering summer skiing in recent years.

Why are they stopping summer skiing?
Is it just not profitable or is there another reason?

Val Thorens has stopped all summer ski-ing in recent years; Tignes used to boast ski-ing 365 days a year, but no longer does. Shrinking glaciers / global warming??

The Glaciers are the remmanents of the last Ice age and are melting as they have been since the end of the last Ice age, they melt quicker as they get smaller, as with any quantity of ice.

abc, L2A and Tignes in France (Val d'Isere was open last year as well, not sure if they're planning to open this summer). Saas Fee and Zermatt in Switzerland. Hintertux, Stubai, Kaprun in Austria (not so sure about Austria, there might be others).
Zermatt opens year round.
