Im off to the above tonite will report on a daily basis regarding current conditions at mayrhofen.kaltenbach, Z am Z
and maybe Hintertux if we go there.

Just got back on sat from mayrhofen. What can I say..... Brilliant week, loads of snow, great food and beer!
First day on slopes (sunday) was very warm! snow was slushy and lower runs where patchy, but up top was good and I dont mind a bit of slush when im boarding.
From Monday to Wednesday snow fell pretty much all the time! Must have had well over 50cm, and loads in the town aswell.
From then on it was powder all the way! Off piste was deep powder thigh deep in most places! But after a day or two it became a bit tracked with everybody having fun in thew powder.
On piste became hardish but was still excellent!
Night life in mayrhofen is good, as is the food. Mo's bar is always busy but the food is good and the local bottle of beer is nice 
We normally went in ice bar after coming off the slopes, the large bottle of beer in there is great after a long day on the slopes.
Scotland yard is worth a visit, nice pint of guiness! and darts, also good finger food.
If you fancy a chinesse, there is one near scotland yard. I thought it was excellent!
As for other bars i liked winwin, clean large bar with a mini casino. We won around 100 euro over the week. Cheap beer aswell!
We didnt bother going to near by resorts except Hintertux, went up there on the thursday. fast red runs where good but i think its better for skiers up there. It was also very very cold! -18 at top 3250m.
Overall great holiday and boarding,  would go back

JUST GOT BACK FROM MAYRHOFEN....WHAT A GREAT WEEK OF BOARDING...6 DAYS OF GREAT WEATHER, GOOD PISTE CONDITIONS AND QUIET RESORTS.
DAY 1 MAYRHOFEN, GREAT CONDITIONS THE SNOW FROM THE PREVOUS WEEK REALLY SORTED THE MOUNTAIN OUT, ALL RUNS WERE GOOD UNTIL ABOUT 13.00 THEN THE HOT SUNNY WEATHER MADE THE LOWER RUN A BIT SLUSHY BUT IT WAS OK
DAY 2 AND 3 KALTENBACH AND FUGEN..EXCELLENT RESORTS WITH GOOD LONG RUNS REALLY ENJOYED IT AND DID STACKS, NO MUCH POWER BUT THE RUNS WERE GOOD AND IT WAS QUIET, I RECOMMEND THIS AREA
DAY 4 STAYED LOCAL IN MAYRHOFEN, SAME REPORT AS DAY 1...ITS ALL GOOD
DAY 5 ZIM AM ZILLER AND GERLOS...THIS RESORT OFFERED THE MOST FOR ME , THE RUNS WERE LONG AND FAST AND REALLY TESTED MY SKILLS AT SNOWBOARDING, IN ADDITION THIS AREA WAS SO QUIET , THERE WAS HARDLY ANYONE ON THE PISTE....UNREAL
DAY 6 HINTERUX, i DID NOT LIKE THIS RESORT IN JAN 07 AND I STILL DONT, IF YOU SKI THEN GREAT, STAYED TO 12.00 AND HEADED BACK TO MAYRHOFEN TO FINISH THE DAY OFF...
tHE ZILLERTAL AREA IS GOOD , QUICK TRANSFER FROM INNSBRUCK, THE LINKS TO GET OTHER RESORTS ARE QUICK AND EASY TO USE...ALL OUR TRIPS WERE NO MORE THAT 23/30 MIN BY TRAIN APART FROM HINTERTUX (BUS ONLY), REALLY EASY AND FREE..............AS FOR THE NIGHTLIFE AND GOOD FOOD I RECOMMEND THE MOVIE BAR, WINWIN, MOS, MANNIS ......IN FACT MOST OF THE FOOD PLACES ARE PRETTY GOOD....
HOWEVER, THE ONLY SOUR POINT OF OUR TRIP INVOLVED THE BIGGEST FIGHT I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A SB HOLIDAY BETWEEN AT LEAST 18 DUTCH AND 20 GERMAN BLOKES...THESE TWO GROUPS KICKED THE CRAP OUT OF EACH OTHER, BOTTLE THROWING,TABLE AND CHAIRS AT EACH OTHER.... BLOOD EVERY WHERE AND GUESS WHAT ONLY 3 POLICE TURNED UP.........PS ....THIS WAS GREAT TO WATCH

mongoose, glad you enjoyed it. We're skiers and loved the variety when we visited a few years ago. Agree about Hintertux aswell. It was freezing when we went and bleak. I'm sure it would be good on a clear day though.
We also loved Kaltenbach and did the home run (Eberharter black then red) and it was a real thigh burner post 4pm! The scenery was stunning aswell.
Where was the fight? That sounds really bad. It was all good spirits from our experience of apres ski?

It is absolutely fantastic on a clear day - plus it offers nice vertical. You can ski from 3250m to 1500m.
Glad you enjoyed your time in the Zillertal, I loved it too...

Markus, looks better! We couldn't even see the piste the snow was blowing up around our knees, the lifts were lurching around and it was -30 with wind chill. After 2 runs we went back down the valley where the weather was ok.

Hayls, It truly was amazing, probably one of the best ski days ive had.
It was half term and while i was having a great time in the valley resorts they were very full and the snow was not ideal. I went to Hintertux, and the queues were minimal and the slopes were not that full (bar the home run at 4.00). The weather was great, and it was great just to ski the huge vertical in one go
I do agree though that its probably awful in bad weather, bad for snowboarders, and the pistes arent even that good/varied/challenging but if you're in the area and its nice weather its a must trip just for the stunning scenery.
