easy going chill out sort of vibe, we are mid 20's couple not looking to dance the nice away in a disco, loved the yeti in serre che when last over

tom00_uk, the Potato ??? got a funny name like a potato - sure easiki can correct, is not bad, I also think its nicknamed the 'brazilain bar' . The Polar bear is nice early but gets absolutley rammed later on. Also Secrets is ok if you get the sofa area .
Smithys if you drink past the 'chilled out vibe' is good for a shimmy. But to be honest we stayed in the hotel bar a lot and socialised with the people there so didnt try any others.

we are in a small challet so cabin fever might set in
are the blacks quite hard? i understand the the blacks in serre che are not classed by many people as being true blacks, i only ask as i have managed to make it down the blacks in serre che and would like to try a range of runs when there
should i get some ski school in to make sure i know what the hell im doing???

tom00_uk, Our blacks are quite tough here, but as you can ski from 2,100m all the way up (or down) to 3,600m on blues and reds etc. there's plenty of skiing there.
I don't know where your particular chalet is though - there are lots of new ones this year. There are also lots of french bars which haven't been mentioned .... the Brazilien (that's what it's called) is very chilled early evening but gets busy later. there's also the Santa Fee whcich was quite chilled last time I was in. Le Pressoir is very french as is the little bar under the skating rink (bet none of you found that one!!!) I like the Lutins at T time personally and the Igloo if I'm hiding - a place with nil atmosphere but nil english!! Le Club is fine too and not many tourists in there.
I couldn't help you with lessons I'm afraid as I'm full, full. You'll have a great time, but the atmosphere is very different from SC.

tom00_uk, the Icheve is at the Venosc end of things. Nearby bars are the Red Frog, Patador, Brasilien, Ours Blanc, Smithy's. Places to go on eat-out night are L'Etable for pizza, Le Cellier or Le Paellou for montagnarde, Au Bel Auberge for bit more expensive but very nice food, Smithy's for Tex-Mex and huge burgers.

tom00_uk, Your chalet looks nice. It is still being offered on Iglu. I'm hoping to get a bargain single in a nice chalet when I arrive, but as I am on Billy-no-mates status that week it isn't easy to get a single at present. Chalet companies are holding out.
I have been offered a bed in the Mariande, but I'm fussy who I sleep with and I snore, so I want a single really! Give me a shout if there is an empty room when you arrive will you? I won't be there until quite late on the 7th.
Cheers.

We were in Les Deux Alpes last week (fabulous ) & were also staying in the Venosc area. We loved the 'Crepes-a-go-go' - not the most promising of names, but trust me, it's a wonderful bar/restaurant. Very friendly, & very popular with the locals. You need to book if you want to eat in the evening (it gets very busy later on) but it's easy enough to find a table if you just want an apres-ski drink. We went in there every day! Well, it was on the way home...

Hello all, first post from me!
I'm booked into Chalet L'Icheve for Jan 5-12, with a couple of mates.
I've been at Les 2 about five years ago, so I know the resort well.
Can anyone tell me exactly where this chalet will be? How close to the Diable telecabines is the 'reported 200m'?
I know the Diable is normally quite a busy lift as well, so was wondering if it would save morning time to trudge across to the Jandri?

I'm not sure exactly where your chalet is, but if it's said to be 200m from the Diable, then it shouldn't be too far from the Super Venosc chair up to the other side of the valley - for some reason, the lifts on that side don't seems to be much mentioned by the TOs. According to the TO lit for our hotel earlier this year, the Diable was the closest lift for us, but the SV chair turned out to be virtually next door... That side is lovely to ski in the mornings, & always seems quieter - there's a link across to the main area, as well. There is an uphill walk to the chair, though. But still, it could work out better than trudging all the way to the Jandri, which would probably be just as busy as the Diable anyway.

Jo225, the Icheve is a right old hike from the Super Venosc, in fact. TOs don't list it as closest lift because snow on that side is unreliable and it's often closed, leading to whinges from guests.
|
|
|
|
|

Thanks for your help all. I've tried to find out where on a town map the chalet is, I'm guessing it's in the southern end of the town where it widens out from the main road a little. Somewhere near that really good pizza restaurant I went to.

Aah, sorry - thought it might be on the same hillside...
Remarkably civilised of the TOs! I would have expected more of a 'Well, it is the nearest lift! We never promised it would be open' attitude
