Why, you may ask am I absolutely gutted?
Well, I was originally booked onto my BASI 3 course with New Gen in Courchevel in Dec 06. This then had to be changed when they rearranged the dates of the course and it clashed with a family gathering. So I then booked onto the course in March. No problems I hear you say. I was initially worried by the lack of snow in the Alps but checks on the webcams allayed any fears I had. Work carried on as normal (I am a Personal Trainer and group exercise instructor for those of you who don't know) up until friday. Then whilst teaching a Body Combat class I fell awkwardly, twisting my knee and damaged ligaments (medial collateral and anterior cruciate) and I am now sat with my leg braced and strapped, dosed up on anti inflammatories. GUTTED. I have had to cancel my course, my flight and I now have to go through the pain in the backside of claiming all my money back from my insurance. Well I suppose I have plenty of spare time on my hands at the moment.
At least I have the knowledge that I will be fit for the first course of next season which I am provisionally booked on.
Still..............................................at least it's snowing outside!!!!!!!!!

That's bad luck, especially a non-skiing injury. That really shouldn't be allowed! Which course have you signed up for next season? Is it the Foundation week or the assessment?

stocky, very, very, very, bad luck. No wonder you're gutted. If you can be bothered, it would be great if you continue this thread with the story of your rehab - it's such a common injury that having this info from someone who is a sports professional would be really informative.

rob@rar, I will be on the first Instructor training course in December with New Generation in Courchevel. Fortunately cos I have been an instructor, albeit on dry slopes, for the last 8 years I was exempt doing the trainee instructor course.
pam w, will definately keep you updated on my rehab if you want. Fortunately for me I don't need to spend lots of cash on physios as I am a qualified sports therapist myself and working in a gym gives me access to all the equipment I will ever need to get better again. As soon as the swelling has subsided I will be cracking on with the rehab regime. At the moment I am waiting for the anti inflammatories (Ibuprofen 600Mg) and the ice to work their wonders on me. Then it will be a strict regime of mobility and flexibility work (very tedious and boring, but essential) and then on to light strengthening and endurance work. Once that is completed the strengthening/endurance work will increase and when that is sufficient I will introduce some basic dynamic/plyometric exercises to get me back up to full fitness. All through this I will be working on my cardio fitness by swimming and cycling. Hopefully it should take me no longer than 2 months to get back up to a decent level again, enough to get back onto skis again anyway.

stocky, thanks. A friend skiing here last week for the first time did something v similar to his knee, but had started to "get the bug" before the fall (which was during a private lesson) and is keen to get himself quickly fit again. What will you be doing for the mobility and flexibility phase?

pam w, general flexibility and mobility exercises consist of putting the joint concerned through its full range of motion. Full flexion and full extension without resistance at first and then with light resistance. That includes, for the knee, bending and starightening the leg, ensuring that the knee and the foot are kept in a straight line.
If you want any more details about a rehab program then drop me a PM with an email addy and I will fire off a full program to you.
