I skied with someone a couple of weeks ago who had a hip flask with some rather fine cognac in it. It all seemed very civilised, so I'm considering getting one for myself. I was wondering if anyone had any advice.
Which is best, stainless steel, pewter, or silver?

Kramer,
We carry 2 at all times because Cognac is best in coffee but rum is much better in chocolate - you have got to hve your bases covered

Kramer, mine's stainless steel, but with a nice bit of pigskin wrapped round the outside! And the best thing to go inside it is cinnamon schnapps.

Ooh, with you on the sloe gin Frosty the Snowman I punctured my hipflask (which had blackcurrant schnapps in at the time) when I wiped out quite spectacularly one time.

Some old-school jewellers should be able to kit you out.
And it's single malt scotch for me.

Hello everybody; first post for me but I had to second the port and brandy mix option.
As far as flasks go the best (of the four I own) is the leather covered (non slip) stainless steel one. It has a top that is fixed with a metal flap to the flask so that you can't drop it off the chairlift (very important IMO)
Cheers everyone

I got Mr HL a very nice set of 4 cups in a leather case at Asprey - much more civilised than swigging it from the neck

So by the sounds of it there's nothing against a small 'relaxing' nip every now and again if you ski, just don't get sloshed?

Megamum,
I usually have 1 beer at lunchtime (small) but don't ski until about half an hour later so reckon my poor liver will have been able to process it by then (is it one unit per hour?)

I've never tried that with Cognac or rum - what effect does it have on the glid of the ski, and how often do you need to re-do it during the week?
