Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anyone out in Austria at the moment ??

Flying out to Munich a week today and have yet not decided where to go for 3 days skiing.

We were hoping to go for Saalbach but are hearing unconfirmed reports that the snow is better in the west. The snow doesn't have to be perfect but if it's not great we'll aim for the best available.

Anybody out there at the moment with an idea what it's like?

St Anton & Ischgl are options but there seems very little accomodation available and we'd probably have to stay out of the resort. Solden is the same. Mayrhofen and Neustift seem the other likely options.

Any thoughts appreciated !!

With the current warm weather I'd be inclined to visit St Anton if you want expert terrain or Kitzsteinhorn (Kaprun) if easy blues & reds are OK for you. Even Obertauern isn't doing too well this season, most of the last snowfall fell just north of Obertauern.

Yes - we live here. We are in Radstadt which is part of the Ski Amade network - 45 mins from Salzburg. The snow and skiing here is excellent. We were at Saalbach last Saturday and half of it was green - no joke - and the pistes wernt too good. The Ski Amade pistes are in much better condition than Saalbach.

Having said that - snow was due early this week so things could have changed.

Hope that helps. snowHead

flangesax,
Been up the road to Obertauern in the last few days? - if not, do you fancy nipping up there to have a look at snow conditions? wink

Thinking of going end of March and wouldn't mind some local knowledge.

DB, How bad are the reports you've seen - or have you visited Obertauern recently?

A workmate was at Obertauern Sat 24 - Tue 27 Mar and they received no new snow although nearby Zauchensee had new snow and was therefore better. Obertauern had no offpiste to speak of although it has received 10cm since. All the lifts are open at Obertauern so it can't be that bad and with the warm weather (and rain) higher is generally better.
