Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying kit in Whistler

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
I'm off to Whistler in 2 weeks, and I'm toying with the idea of buying that new jacket I've promised myself when I get there.

Is there a decent range of shops in the resort (as opposed to traditional N.American 'outlet' areas miles out of town), and are the goods relatively good value compared to the UK, given exchange rates?

I like the look of some of the higher range Columbia jackets I've seen over here, and one shop assistant said it's really confusing as they supply different jackets to UK compared to N.America, so hard to do direct price comparisons, and they also said that the best ones go to Canada/US - another reason for risking buying out there.

Any thoughts anyone?

cheers
Andy

there's also loads of shopping to be done in vancouver, which is a fair bit cheaper than whistler. there's a shopping mall in north vancouver - can't remember its name - that's just to the west of lions gate bridge that has a huge sports store with a LOT of outdoor and ski jackets. depends how much you're spending, but it might be worth a trip to vancouver to save some pennies.

Shock)

i was in whistler at end of jan/start of feb and had a good look around the shops - reckon the jackets were about half price on english prices - between $200 and $400 dollars. definately worth waiting to buy when you get there

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

George McConkey at McCoo's Too. It's on the right just before the Whistler mountain lift.

I'm going out next Wednesday, hope there is some snow left. Ha Ha Ha!!!

mij, I second the recommendation for George. I'm on my second pair of boots now fitted by George, the first pair having been bought at Snow & Rock and were a very tight fit to start with! He's great. You do need to make an appointment to see him as he is very popular and he only works first thing in the morning and then (I think) from 4pm for maybe 2 or 3 hours. So if you want to see him then go into McCoo's (not McCoos Too) early on in your holiday. It's across from Carleton Lodge next to the Hilton. He'll fit the boots and then you can pop in and see him for any tweaks if you need them.

thanks for the info. going to whistler on 29th march. I have a problem with my right knee and it may be improved with new boots. My daughter would also benefit from advice from an experienced bootfitter. We'll check both out

Yes,

Alex Fell in snowcovers. He is busy most of the week working as a race coach, but goes in to punch/shape/adjust all the boots in there
