At the moment I mostly ski at Nevis Range in Scotland and the last few times I’ve been the conditions have been fresh snow up top where the blue runs are and spring like on the lower red runs.
Spring snow I can do but when it gets a bit heavy I sometimes get in the back seat. When it gets really heavy and narrow I just fail to ski at all - other than slide - turn - stop - look at the 12” pile of corn snow I’ve just created then repeat.
I’m going to get a lesson next week but I would like to hear your thoughts first.

II, in conditions like that I try to focus on controlling the shape of my turn by varying the pressure I apply to the skis and to minimise any leg rotation. It means I have to be fairly patient with the turn as any attempts to rush it just means getting dumped out sideways.

Skis too; one of my favourite conditions  You can crank over and get some absurd angles without any fear of loosing your edges.

Thanks first off but…
If it is wide I have no problems (I just let the turn happen)  ... I do however struggle if the available terrain is less than 5m wide I don’t have the confidence to stay on my toes.

It can't possibly be nearly Spring, I'm still waiting for Winter to arrive and I've only had 1 week so far this season 
II, 5m wide! how long are your skis then? What sort of steepness are we talking here?

Well, speaking from a novice perspective I found the wet slushy snow (and we got several days of it) a darn sight easier that the sheet ice we had one day, and most days I found skiing in the afternoon after it warmed up much easier than the icy topping that we had in the morning. I just assumed that, although such heavy slushy conditions were not ideal, most experienced folk would find them relatively easy to ski as I did - obviously not, but why not?

Speed helps - with a good edge, and a well-centred stance - just smash your way through the lumps and the variable consistency snow. They're much more likely to throw you if you're timid. That's what I find, anyway.

are some skis better for this than others? My normal ones are a bit light and soft, I suspect. Will it be easier on the longer, fatter, heavier, twin tips (Line Celebrity)? I guess I'll find out in the next few weeks.

I can do it going fast not a problem actualy enjoy it - it's just when i'm faced with a one peistebasher wide strip to regain the lift that i "panic" .
