Who else saw the "Skistars Invitational"? I thought it was fantastic - I never expected to see Stenmark, Zurbriggen (Pirmin of course), Russi, Furuseth, Wenzel, Klammer and so many other huge names from the past race again - and they did. Very tight GS course causing lots of problems for the speedsters, rather fewer for the old slalomers - but what a treat, and how good they all still are. this is going into my collection as a very special video indeed.
I was overwhelmed to see Stenmark my all time favourite skier, and Russi who has never been beaten in my book of most amazing skiing I've ever seen .... (Wengen around 73, he came full tilt into the finish S of the Laurberhorn in training, stood up and WEDELED that steep hill they all jump down nowadays - WOW).
I'm quite choked - really.

ESPN Classic (channel 442 on Sky and run by our very own Konrad B) just ran the movies of Sapporo '72 and Innsbruck '76. Not TV pictures but full on panavision shot on proper film cameras. Like watching it live. Watching slalom without spring-loaded gates. Jumpers for goal posts. Bliss.

eng_ch, I could copy from the VHS onto a DVD, but have to sit through it each time - now that's a thought - good excuse .....

Just seen (yesterday) a great "winter olympic ski greats" on ESPN - Lots of footie and boxing - that's why I hadn't spotted the ski bits - will look harder in future. Really brill.
