Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Credit-card usage in Austria is way below the European average. Thus, one should always have cash on the hip. However, Ischgl is one of Austria's top 5 international resorts, so they are most likely to accept plastic in most places.

hobbiteater, I found in Austria that even if they take credit cards, they may not accept Visa - got caught short at the lift pass office at Hintertux where the only credit card they would take was Mastercard.

I failed entirely to buy an air ticket using any one of about four credit cards at Innsbruck airport, a few years ago.

We couldn't use Visa to buy our lift passes in Saalbach this year, I don't know if it was just a shop rule or an awkward salesgirl but they were happy to accept it for a £5 sale in the airport shop.

I would not risk taking a Credit Card to a Mountain Restaurant in Austria.

Cash is King.

hobbiteater, Bee there several times but never even attempted to use a card. Many pensions and B&B's don't even take cards whic can make paying your room bill a bit tricky at times if you've just assumed that they'll take them. I'd take plenty of cash if I was you. Cash is king in Austria, as stanton quite rightly says... dunno why, but would hazard a guess that the tax man is something to do with the reasoning!!!

Mountain Restaurants? Snowball's chance in hell.

Any accomidation or restaurants other than upscale hotels and eateries? No way.

Bars? Forget it.

Lift ticket office and rental/ski gear/clothing shops, more likely.

Make a point of knowing where the cash machine is.
