Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

2009 World Alpine Skiing Championship to be free to spectators

Spectators will be able to see all the races free of charge at the 2009 World Alpine Skiing Championships in Val d'Isere (France). "We want the championships to be a celebration and we need plenty of spectators to watch the races," said committee president Jean-Claude Killy. Also, the FIS are considering making the 2009 event 12 days long, rather than the current 16 days, to satisfy demands by broadcasters.

...The Bellevarde piste, where the men's Olympic downhill was staged in Val d’Isere, will be used for the men's speed events, as well as for the technical events for both men and women. The women's speed events will be staged on a new piste on the Solaise mountain, opposite Bellevarde.

Looking at the coverage, it hasn't exactly been sold out in Are.
Stands looked empty for the (I think) super-combi.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It's a great idea in principle, but what will actually happen to accommodation prices/availability around that time? Not sure low numbers in Are are representative. Also, has anyone ever been to the Worlds, and does the rest of the resort carry on functioning as normal, so that you get a proper ski holiday alongside? If so, it does sound like a good excuse (as if one were needed) to rebook Val.

clara_jo, There are so many places to ski and stay in the valley that crowds on the piste or closing some for the racing is not going to be a problem . . . now who do I know runs a chalet nearby ? wink
