Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A fantastic picture from Ohau. The background mountains look extraordinarily moody in that photo... (unless its my computer being moody). Ohau is one of the South Islands small clubfields, and thoroughly worth a visit it is too, such a nice break from the ramjams in queenstown and wanaka...

Yeah, but I remember the year when the snow didn't come down any further down Ruapehu than that hut being excavated.
And to think I came over in search of better snow conditions.....
Hang on - I want to know how the photographers all managed to get such a blue sky. Lucky shots inbetween the usual high wind/low cloud/rain?

Buchanans shot got me very envious - but Ohau obviously had a painted backdrop!

Tony Lane, Eh? Oh you mean 1996ish. Been a while since that's happened.
snowball, I agree. Has to be. Photochop (not sure if that's a freudian slip or not) does wonders these days, innit.

Yes it was 1996, right at the beginning of the season. Unfortunately, it has been a while since i was there.

Feel free to go visit. [I should charge a fee to NZ Tourisim Board]
My mum will meet you at the airport (she's a good proper Kiwi mum like that....).
If you asked nicely she'd probably even drive you up the resort. She ain't a skier - she's a proper paid up Forest&Bird member & will talk your ear off about local weather patterns & climate change. If you're lucky.

that's a kind offer! (and i ask for everything nicely!)
my g/f and I are off to Australia in two weeks time and so a return to NZ will have to wait for a while longer - however, it is top of the list of our honeymoon destinations (I should point out that this is still a hypothetical concept!)

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Bless. Have fun with the jet lag.
Incidentally my folks have a traditional NZ beach house overlooking the ocean there that they regularly rent out (assuming you (or in fact any snowhead) head off down to NZ & find yourself on the west coast of the North Island).
