Poster: A snowHead

Hello! I've just noticed that Thomson has Kopaonik back on it's books. I was under the impression that the resort was in a state of disrepeair after the war. Obviously not! Has anyone been there recently? If so, what did you think? The scenery looks very pleasant, but I'm wondering about the resort atmosphere - if I go, it'll be with my boyfriend, 12 year old sister, and my father who has Parkinsons so there won't be any crazy nights out! Thanks! Liam

Hmm not a clue on the resort itself, however Id be V wary of thinking its ok based on what Thomsons said, theyd sell you a trip to Basra if they could make a profit!

I have been to Serbia for the last three years on holidays and safety is not an issue. The ony question in my mind would be snow quality.

That may be different!
I would point out though that I stayed in the town of Cacak which is southern Serbia and not a million miles from kosovo. About 150k I guess.

Now then. I'd like to think that I'm reasonably well qualified to talk about Serbia. My missus comes from the afore mentioned town of Cacak and we are out there at least once a year....

Phil, apparantly its about 80-90km!!!!
What I can tell you is that the Serbs are working bloody hard to improve things for tourists. I was out there last month, the roads are being improved (God knows they needed to be) and safety is not an issue at all. The people are great and the sceney is fantastic. I had been out there when things weren't so good and even then I didn't encounter any problems.
Mrs Richie used to ski Kopaonik when she was a kid. She says that the hotels are good that there is nowt wrong with the place apart from its a bit pricey - compared to similar resorts in Bulgaria for example. My only concern is that there are only about 50km of piste.

hey i just joined today and searched around to see if i could help with advice.
kopaonik is a great resort, ive been there for the past 3 years, and am going again in february. ive always had good snow - and ive heard that when there isnt much snow, the army (who are there to train in winter conditions) are made to shovel snow onto the popular runs.
the hotels are ok. the grand is lovely, but very expensive. konaci is where i usually stay - but this year im staying in a similar style apartment which is actually halfway up one of the runs. (its a ski-to-door resort as it is, being at the top of the mountain) but for us boarders its about a 10 minute walk to the nearest lift from konaci. this new place will be a challenge for food and stuff, but will be easy to get the first lift in the mornings.
the only thing id be worried about with thompsons is the transfer from the airport to the resort. its not that its going to be hard, but you'd need a guide im sure as the coach drivers arent the most lingustically enabled people even with their serbian.
i moved to belgrade 2 years ago, and if anyone wants/needs help arranging a trip let me know and i'll do what i can.

My wife and I skied in Kopaonik in 1989 before the troubles and I have to say it was the best value ski trip Ive ever been on. We landed at Niss airport and bused to the resort, about 2 hours from memory. The resort workers were a surly lot but inflation was rampant and tensions were high so it wasnt suprising. The Konici apartments are between lifts and we could ski from the door to the chairlift. The rooms were warm and comfortable and the food at the resterants good and cheap. The runs were intermediate with only one really challenging run that did for my wife knee. However the best run was 7kms long. I would ski there again given the opportunity

Last two years I was in JAT Apartments - Kopaonik and also I will go there in January. Apartmats are ski-to-door (80m from ski chair), comfortable, nice, warm and cheap specifically for foreign tourists. For example 7 day apartment for 4 person in January costs 350€ and ski pass for 7 days costs 75€. The resolt has 22 ski lifts with over 60km of slopes.
All about JAT Apartments you may find here:

Just found this thread as i am looking for info on the resort as Crystal are now taking booking for there.
For me and the wife it comes to a total of £634 including the lift pass for one week half board at the Putnik Hotel on January the 8th.
Anyone have any reviews of the hotel?
Cheers

It's got to be worth a try in January. There's a wide variety of runs within the original 50km or so. We had a very good week there, I would guess in March 1990 as the snow melted, probably the last week before it closed for the hostilities. All hotels were good then, and for doorstep skiing the resort can't be beaten. The mountain restaurants were interesting.
