Franz Klammer has been chosen to head up Salzburg’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics after Fedor Radmann the campaign’s chief executive resigned on Monday due to illness. Klammer, who is 54 years old, was known for his fearless skiing and won the 1976 Innsbruck Olympics downhill after starting in 15th place on a treacherous course.
...Radmann is the second bid chairman to resign. The first, Toni Schutti, quit last March. An International Olympics Committee (IOC) evaluation team will be visiting Salzburg from March 14th to 17th to review its bid. And, it is now less than 6 months until the IOC decides between Salzburg (Austria), Sochi (Russia) and Pyeongchang (South Korea) as the 2014 Winter Olympics venue.
