Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cheapish place to stay en route to Chamonix

Can anyone recommend a cheapish place to stay near Chamonix for a Friday night with a view to hitting the slopes there earlyish on the Saturday morning prior to checking in at our accommodation for the week?

Ann, you could try the "Auberge de l'Orangerie" in Passy - awesome food, I think cheapish beds. Or one of the chain hotels around Annemasse/Bonneville/Cluses = e.g. Mercure or IBIS

worth checking out Sallanches, too. Very close. I think one of the hotels there is IBIS, but they're all easy to find on the web.

Last year we stopped at the IBIS on the A41 services at Bourg en breese, Which was cheap and cheerful and then, and then set off at 06:30 the following moring and was in Chamonix getting skis for 08:00 and on the slopes for 09:00

I just want to thank you for this recommendation - it looks really nice and we have booked! So much nicer than Formule 1 where we stayed last year!

Now researching for something similar on way back 1 week later in Dijon area

Ann, we stayed at a nice b and B just off the autoroute at Gevrey-Chambertin, you can eat in nearby Nuits-St-Georges.

Ann, excellent, please let me know how you get on (very well I hope). We dropped in during the summer for a quick lunch, me having said it looked quite nice. We expected standard regional food. Were we surprised and delighted or what? We had a very very awesome lunch. Hopefully the rest of the set up works as well, and unless it's changed hands I am sure it will. Their attention to detail was just brilliant - and Sophie is ex-hotel/restaurant trade so knows what's she's talking about.

Please do feed back!
