I'm using this for the first time on Saturday. I booked and paid online as usual, but I've just checked in online, reserved my seat and printed out my boarding card.
I'm told I now just need to turn up and check in my hold baggage at the fast bag drop 30 mins before the flight, is that correct? Previously I've always rolled up about two hours before the flight (as requested), but an extra 90 mins in bed does appeal.
Anyone used this service before?
Ta.

no, about to do the same in 2 hours 59 minutes....
Security? I'd be concerned about getting through in just 30 mins
How was the seat booking part?

I do online checkin for my SXB-LGW flight every week. Means you get your seat, etc before hand.
The theory is that it's quicker, but when I did it back in September with BA out of LHR, the bag drop queue was only marginally shorter than the main queue.
I'd not leave it to 30 minutes before, but you can allow a little longer.

lbt, seat booking is a doddle.
They auto-allocate a seat on the website, it shows "you" sat there on a plan of the passenger deck.
It also higlights other available seats, and greys-out those that have been booked. If you want to move, you just click on another available seat and off you go.

Wear The Fox Hat, thank, I'll get there about an hour before then. I don't think the queues at Manchester are as bad as the London airports.

marc gledhill, I agree with Wear The Fox Hat, the queues for the fast bag drop can be as big as standard check in
have used BA online lots of times and it's a great service - i hope you got yourself an emergency exit (extra legroom) seat?
the way it is in LHR and LGW at the minute i'd still get there at least 1.25 hrs before flying but if manchester is quieter sure you'll be ok...

marc gledhill, cool.
Mrs lbt likes to know where we're sitting so that'll cheer her up.

Note for the longer legged - they don't allocate the exit rows for online checkins, so if you're looking for that extra bit of legroom it's still worth checking in at the desk.

sorry brian but i think that is wrong!
.......unless it's a very recent change as we had exit seats both ways in december when i checked them in online and did the same for work flights about 10 times last year

marc gledhill, I do it maybe once a week or so on average but usually just hand baggage - queues now much better than just after the terror-alert ---
brian, you can , but they will not put you there on auto allocation if you have kids in the party but very much selectable last time I looked.

Exit rows now can be booked using online check-in, but not for under 16s I think and you have to tick an additional box to say that you are physically able to open the exit in an emergency.
More and more people are using online check-in and print your own boarding pass (BA is trying to encourage it as much as possible), so as others have said the "Fast" Bag Drop at Heathrow is a bit of a misnomer. It does work really well if you're only traveling with hand luggage, as you can go straight through to departures (actually, you can join the security queue to get into departures. When are BAA going to get sufficient staff to avoid 30 minutes queues to get your bag x-rayed?).

I must be on a dinky plane; it doesn't have exit rows.

...about 8 weeks after they change the exec/senior management whose background is Sainsburys and Shopping Malls and replace them with some people who understand aviation and security ..

marc gledhill, Think they only use that 'Check-In' image for really old prop planes with drunken pilots .. don't worry there will be plenty of room as noone else will want to fly on it. Does it have wings?
|
If it's one of those planes try to get the seat marked PE (parachute enabled). But be quick as the get reserved first.

not hard at all.
Not much meaningful choice though.
The image shows where the wings and toilets are - it's always dodgy having seats near the loo on a 9hr flight.
So I know we'll have a view at least...
