Poster: A snowHead

Hi all, i guess im clutching at straws here but is there anywhere to ski for the week sat28th april? I know its (very) late but exams for some unknown reason have been plonked in the middle of april so cant get away until the 28th.
I was thinking (with my limited snow knowledge) that given the current conditions, all the good white stuff will be later in the season, rather than non-existant!
Any suggestions, and i'm more than willing to accept "wait til november" as a valid suggestion!

A couple of years ago I skied from the top of the glacier at Tignes down to the car in the car park on perfect snow all the way on May 2nd. I think you have a good chance of getting a decent ski that week, though you need to go as high as possible. I have been at Val d'Isere that late too and had good skiing, so the Espace Killy looks good. Others will suggest Zermatt, which has a glacier open all year. With the snow being so late this year, I think you have a good chance of late skiing.

The number of Alpine stations with sizeable terrain open on Sat 28 Apr to Sat 5 May will be very limited.
Most shut down before Sun 22 or Sun 29 Apr.
Realistically, you will probably be limited to just Val d'Isere, Tignes, Val Thorens, Zermatt and perhaps Saas Fee.
I would recommend Val d'Isere or Tignes. They have historically had the best end-season snow and latest below-glacier closing dates.

jrt123, I skied Hintertux last year around the 28th May and conditions were excellent, there was even a good dump during the first few days of June.
Hintertux would most likely have a bigger area open than most of those listed by Whitegold.

Ray Zorro, do you think Hintertux would have more open than Val Thorens?
The whole of the VT area was open for the week after the EoSB last year ~140km of piste.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Obertauern and Obergurgl may also be possibilities as they both advise a season from November to May on their websites.
