Poster: A snowHead
|
Im off the zell am see in a couple of weeks, has anyone been and whats it like?
We're staying in hotel der waldhof, does anybody have any experiance of this hotel?
I have herd, that there is not much in the way of advanced skiing there, so can anyone recomend any of the more advanced slopes?
Id like to try some more off piste skiing this year, so is it possible to hire a ski guide to show us some of the best bits, or can they just be found be myself.
Any info about the resort would be greatly apreciated.

Chris, best thing to do is have a quick search through the last couple of pages of resort threads. There is quite a lot of info on Zell.
After that, come back and ask any more specific stuff

Chris, I've stayed at the Waldhof, it was a summer holiday, all inclusive. The food is very good as well as the beer. There is a run that runs right behind the hotel, from the base of the Schmittenhoe. You can, if this is open, ski back to your door, coming off a nice black from the top of the Schmittenhoe onto this blue right back to the hotel or carry on this blue to the Gondola at Zell back up the other side of the mountain. For the winter we stayed at the Lebzelter, which again is very nice, but for convenience the Waldhof is cracking.

Chris1989 - I have the number of a superb guide / instructor from SkiShule Alpin. He is a true native and knows the area like the back of his hand. I've been on tours with him that even only a handful of the local instructors have ever done, never mind clients. If you want his number let me know. BUT - there's not much snow there at the moment so it could be a total waste of money at the moment hiring him unless you go up to the glacier where there is some good off piste if you know where to look for it. Also the decent blacks are low on the hill (13 and 14 are the best). You can tour to Piesendorf, Sallbach and even Maria Alm at a push. I was there over new year and the pistes were in decent condition but there was noting of the sides. Has been snow since then but i think a lot of it has now melted due to the temps. If you want the number let me know.
