Twenty six Russians, including some important businessmen have been arrested as they "slept" in their swanky hotel in Courchevel 1850. The arrests are part of an inquiry into organized prostition. 50 members of the police were involved in the operation. A number of very young women, said to be inappropriately dressed for the weather conditions, were also arrested but later released.
The arrested men were taken to regional crime squad’s HQ in Lyon. Amongst the businessmen was the billionaire Mikhaïl Prokhorov who runs Norilsk Nickel, Russia leading mineral extraction company. Mr Prokhorov, aged 41 currently hold’s 89th place on Forbes magazine’s rich list. Charges are expected today.

turns out Mikhaïl Prokhorov is a close friend of Putin and he has dispatched some folks to Lyon to treat the prosecutor to sushin the Bar Polonium, there are apparently a lot of worried looking French cops and such like in Lyon at the mo. It has certainly ruined Prokhorov's ski holiday but then the snow doesn't look very good in Courchevel.

Absolutely .. despite knowing that they will get off the charges , at least they have the balls to have a crack at them. Much better than Uk but ' Can we get a conviction?' mentality which leads to some of the extremist crap we read and hear'
Incidentally , it doesn't make the news but the Maritime Police on the C d'A have been raiding the same kind of people for a couple of years - if nothing else they get the message across - ' You can't just flout all the laws around here without us embarrassing/inconveniencing you' .....
