Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just back from Ischgl...

...and it was wonderful. There was no fresh snow but blue skies and sunshine every day, and although some of the pistes were closed, there was still miles and miles of skiing, and we could ski right back into the town, although the runs back were very icy in the afternoon.

One evening we watched the piste bashers really working hard on one long red back into town, and at 9.00 next morning we skiied the run right from the top on groomed soft snow with no other skiers in sight - magic. We were back up the top again before most of the town was up and about Very Happy

Ischgl town is lovely, very pretty and Austrian with a fantastic atmosphere. The Elisabeth Eisbar at the bottom of the slope was rocking every afternoon, very crowded and noisy, with top tunes, go-go dancers on the bar and it was very hard to drag ourselves away to get ready for dinner! A couple of evenings our two and our friend's offspring only just made it back to dinner still in their ski gear!

It's definitely somewhere we will go back to - even with these snow conditions it was wonderful, and with better snow it would be almost perfect.

Happy New Year to all snowHeads snowHead

RachelQ, Glad you enjoyed it. I went there last year for the first time, and can re-iterate everything you've said. We were fortunate to enjoy good snow conditions and a fresh dump or two, and it was absolutely perfect. When it snows, there's huge areas of off-piste that become skiable. Great fun on and off the pistes, best lift infrastrucutre in Europe (according to last years Reuters guide - "Where to ski and snowboard") and a very attractive town with friendly locals. Maybe people on these boards will mainly have heard of it, but when most UK skiers ask me about my favourite resort, I normally get blank looks and a response of "Issch-gull - where's that?".

I agree, a wonderful resort in most snow conditions. We skied there before the kids, and have gone back once with them, they loved it also.

RachelQ, Glad you enjoyed yourself. Was Ischgl full for the week, or were there many cancellations due to the snow ?

Latchigo, I'd say Ischgl was about as full as it could get - people were coming in from all over because the snow was better there than most places. You couldn't physically get any more bodies into some of the bars Smile

Also just back from Ischgl and can echo everything that RachelQ has said, although I don't think we sampled quite as much of the apres-ski as the Q's Little Angel Toofy Grin Although we did indulge in a particularly nice round of mojitos with them one evening.
The ski-ing was wonderful and, despite the fact that the resort was chock-full of people, it wasn't hard to find uncrowded areas to ski.
The hotel we stayed in, the Jagerhof, was great - very welcoming and great food, facilities and situation. I'd happily go back there again snowHead
