Most current forecasts through Jan 5 are still showing little or no snow

I know its early days but anything to build up the snow base would be good !

I suppose it is far too early to hope that is correct. We're there until the 7th, so I'd better start the snowdance again now.

It'll snow before the new year in many parts of the alps. Snowline 1400-1500m. 28th/29th for a couple of days, nothing massively heavy, but enough to freshen things up.

You know it makes sense.

Looking ok for a white christmas in Les Gets so that'll do for me. There's snow on the peaks above judging by the cams.

carled, not that I want to doubt what you say as usually you seem to take a less than optimistic view point but where have you got your info from

Can you sign a paper somewhere for me? I hope you're right

carled, I notice your usual caution about forecasting has deserted you... a hint of deperation perhaps. I just hope you are right. Jan 12th seems quite soon all of a sudden

Nope. Not desperate. I'm confident I've seen something showing up in the movement of a low colliding with a high and although the temps are a bit borderline, I reckon it'll spit out some snow some time around the 28th/29th (more like 29th at present, but I've seen this sort of set-up recently move forwards as the front comes through quicker, so I'm hazarding a guess this will do the same. No scientific reasons, just a hunch. I have until the 10th Feb, so I'm not desperate yet...

If the past week's temperatures constitute a heat wave I'd hate to see a cold snap.

looks to me that gfs has pushed any snow back out to the otherside of the new year again, seems to show that bloody high hanging on for longer than was first thought...........sh*t

Looking at longe range forecast ....snow on its way (maybe) around the 3rd Jan for parts of the Alps!!!
Chris Brookes, yep... it's the stuff that was showing up as appearing before the new year, unfortunately... Only thing that now gives me cause for concern is that the same thing could happen again if the jet stream persists in keeping that damn high pressure in place. Then it's back another week, then another... here's hoping that it can't keep holding on.
carled, lets hope the high pressure gets moved along soon then
