Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi,

Has anyone any experience of ski schools in Meribel?
In our group will be 4 experienced, and 2 beginners.

The two beginners will need ski lessons for sure - one will probably board, the other ski.

I'm wondering if it was possible to get group lessons for experienced skiiers/boarders? Is it possible to have boarders and skiiers in one group?

I know we could get private lessons to suit us, but that is way too expensive!

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

I would go for New Generation - some of the UK's top instructors, and they have been named European Ski School.

I'd also recommend New Gen. Used them in Courchevel & was very impressed.

I know a lot of the NewGen guys and they're very good. Lessons for both boarders and skiers together would not be a good idea, fine for "ski-ing" though. I have tought boarding while on skis and vice-versa but it's very difficult as you can't demonstrate. Of course the arcs made by both are different as well. You may be able to arrange lessons at the same time though. Check out the prices of private lessons - they may be cheaper than you think. Meribel, however, is very expensive.

I can only vouch for Parallel Lines, who I thought were good (I used Phil). A small British team. I used them about 3 years ago I was on my second week then.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Of those schools I contacted they will not have snowboarders and skiers in the same group. I sort of knew that would be the response. Crying or Very sad

Ski schools won't simultaenously instruct boarders and skiiers for the same reason that you wouldn't try to simlutaneously teach two different languages.
Learning one type of snowsport from scratch (e.g. skiing) is difficult enough without the distraction of the instruction being overlaid with "the other language" (e.g. snowboarding). Slot newbie skiers into a skiing group & newbie boarders into a boarding group. Get the prejudice started early..... Very Happy

My week last March with a New Gen group in Merbiel was fantastic - small group (6) and instructor focused on each individual. V impressed.

I can recommend Andy Jerram who works at Ski Academy having skied with him in a BASI context. Also John Hendry at Newgen in Meribel was of a similar high standard and great fun. If you are looking for a more "French" approach i would suggest Snow Systems as they all speak excellent English.
