I know the area reasonably well, it is actually quite a long drive from my house, around 1hr so we don't go that way very often but quite a lot of the stuff we do on the western side drops over to the east. There are a lot of bowls that are not too extreme and hold the snow really well.

davidof, Lovely, thanks for sharing it with us. Looks like it was hard work though! No sign of any large chunks of Mont Sec falling off on your way past?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Just a cautionary note. There were a couple of avalanche incidents in Switzerland yesterday. On on the Grand St Bernard, on an east facing slope between 2000-2500 meters, two skiers partially buried. No serious injuries and the other on the col between the Allalinhorn and Alphubel at 3500m, north aspect, two skiers triggered and carried away by a slab. The risk will increase over the next 48 hours in France with the fresh snow and strong winds.
