Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Do you ski/board "under the influence"?

Even if you feel it's not your fault you may have some explaining to do if you are in an accident - possibly under arrest.

Dunsmore told officials Saturday that he was going down the mountain at the same speed as everybody else when he saw the girl cut across the slope as he came over a hill on a run. He said he couldn't stop in time.

Looks like the local police feel he has a case to answer.

achilles, "The girl, whose name was not released, had a cut on her mouth, bruises on her right hip, and a sore left leg." doesn't quite sound like carnage on the slopes to me. Must have been a slow day at Denver News. rolling eyes

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

'couldn't' stop in time' says a lot about the incident.. ona bitof a tangent though.. what if you are sking down a tree lined run and someone shoots out of the trees in front of you and you hit em?

AxsMan, I agree. Fact is, though, the bloke was arrested. Could take the edge off your holiday. I think that if you have been drinking, the police (and maybe the courts) will presume you are guilty of causing the accident, even if you did not. It will probably increase the severity of sentence in any court case, too.

CANV CANVINGTON, I was wondering along those lines - looking at The FIS rules of skiing, I think
Quote:
You are responsible for your own safety and that of other skiers and snow boarders. Be aware of people around you and take necessary action to avoid skiing dangerously or causing a hazard to yourself or others.

would make the skier coming out of the trees responsible - unless there were any specific warnings by the piste of skiers emerging from a recognized run through the trees.

achilles, Understood. I note that this took place at a US resort, land of the blame culture and thriving legal profession. I suspect in Europe there would have been a bit of argy bargy on the slope and both parties would have walked away.

With regard to the drink aspect, IMHO if you are out of control through drink, drugs, or just being a wazzack, you are a danger to yourself and others. But that doesn't make it a sin to have a glass of Gluhwein, a Beer or a Bombardino at lunchtime. (Maybe not all three togther though, if you are planning to ski after lunch). Very Happy

I can't imagine cops in Europe caring less, but I could be wrong. N.America is pretty uptight about booze, although I'm not a huge fan of drinking (more than a glass or two of wine or beer) and skiing/boarding. The guy should have shot her; no problem with that in US, SFAIK.

It once took me 35mins to get down the Savoy(green piste) one night, when there was a full moon and deep snow. When i finally arrived at the bottom, i felt like i could have won the world cup. God how i laughed, had anyone seen or filmed me........................... Toofy Grin

If you fancy a drink at lunchtime, why not stay the whole afternoon and stagger down the slope when everyone's gone home. Just make sure you're not too drunk to see that piste basher Very Happy

iblair, Done exactly that once or twice. It generally depends on the place (nice restaurant, good conversation, nice wine => increased chance of stopping early.

With this possibility in mind, and to avoid the busiest periods in the restaurants and on the slopes we tend to ski from first lift until around 11.30, have an early 'snack lunch' and get back out while the crowds are all coming in. we can then have the pistes to ourselves (relatively) and take another break around 2.30 which might be the stop for the day, or if the skiing is great and we're feeling up to it, will just be a late lunch with an hour or two left afterwards. All depends on the day really.

I'm far from teetotal (VERY VERY Far Blush ) but don't think it's a good idea, or very responsible to ski p1$$ed. (plenty do though, which makes the afternoon blues near the bars more risky in some ways than the less accesible reds IMHO).
