Poster: A snowHead
|
I just had the latest SBB e-Newsletter announcing that a new TGV service is due to start in June 2007 from Paris-Est to Zurich via Basel. Journey time from Paris to Basel will be cut by 90 minutes to just 3.5 hours, which means under 5 hours to Zurich. Thought this might be of interest to those of you who like the Eurostar/train option for next season

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

eng_ch, it's also via Strasbourg. - there is a lot of work going on at Strasbourg Gare in preparation for the TGV. The line to Basel isn't being upgraded, which means the Strasbourg - Basel route will still take about the same length of time, but the main gain is in Paris-Strasbourg, which will come down to about 2hr 20mins.
I hope to get to use it a few times before my work finishes here.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wear The Fox Hat, yes, of course it does! Sounds like a very interesting route - makes Paris almost day trippable from here (realistic day trippable, I mean, not the SBB's idea of a day trip which is 8 or 9 hours each way, spending 2 horus in teh destination )

eng_ch, just a little update - I caught the end of the news this morning on the way to work, and they were saying that SNCF will be offering good discounts next year on the TGV Est. (will try to find a link)

eng_ch, the lowest fair is €19 from Mulhouse to Paris! (I'm guessing that will only be at certain times, etc)
